Republic of Kiribati is a chain of Islands located near the Equator in the central Pacific Ocean. It lies about half way between Hawaii and Australia. It includes three major island groups - Gilbert Islands, Line Islands, and Phoenix Islands.

The country's 33 atolls are scattered over 1,351,000 square miles (3,500,000 square kilometers). The main chain of Gilbert Islands provides the island nation of Kiribati its name. ‘Gilberts’ in the local language means Kiribati.

The capital of Kiribati and the main Island is Tarawa. Around 90% of the Kiribati People live in and around Tarawa. English is widely spoken as well as Gilbertese.

Kiribati can be reached by air through Fiji or through Hawaii. There are some connections from Australia too.

Kiribati has a tropical maritime climate that is uniformly hot and humid, tempered by sea breezes.

Average daily temperatures range between 28 degrees Celsius (79 degrees Fahrenheit) and 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit).

Kiribati's low-lying atolls are fringed by white sand beaches, beautiful lagoons and extensive coral reefs.

The islands saw fighting during World War II, when thousands of lives were lost in the Battle of Tarawa. There are many war relics scattered around Kiribati.

With over thirty three islands of beauty to explore, it is no wonder why some people travel far and wide to visit Kiribati.

There are excellent facilities for snorkeling and deep-sea fishing in Kiribati.

There are wildlife sanctuaries on most of the Line Islands (with bird watching on Christmas Island), and excellent game fishing and diving in the ocean waters.

The diverse and unusual population of birds indigenous to Kiribati makes this destination a wonderful choice for people who simply enjoy nature.

Snorkeling and scuba diving are two favorite tourist activities because of the great variety of marine life nestled in the many atolls and coral reefs.

If you are a fan of fishing you will not be disappointed by what the islands have to offer. In fact, the most popular reason for a Kiribati visit is fishing. Christmas Island is Kiribati’s largest and most remote landmass and offers the best fishing.

The Kiribati culture is based on Micronesian beliefs and practices. There is much emphasis placed on hospitality and a family atmosphere. The environment is very relaxed and daily activities revolve around eating, drinking, and dancing.

The Villages resort in Kiribati is perfectly positioned to welcome the sunrise each new day and has its very own bonefish flat right in front of the Resort.

The Villages resort provides some of the most comfortable accomodation, friendliest service and delicious food on the entire Island of Kiribati.
